How to Book a Tee Time When Your Course Is Closed for Aeration

Aeration week is not a sold-out sheet. Some shops close. Some stay open on punched greens. Some leave the sister 18 open. Read that calendar, then book the open course.

Aeration week is not a sold-out Saturday. Some shops close the course. Some stay open on punched greens. Some leave the sister 18 for sale. Read that shop's maintenance calendar, then book the open course. Do not keep refreshing the grey favorite.

Closed, open, or the other 18

Do not treat every aeration date as a lockout. Named public shops publish opposite rules this fall.

Monmouth County Parks rotates closures across the system. The 2026 fall aeration schedule, revised 1 August 2026, closes Hominy Hill 29 September through 1 October and Howell Park 6 through 8 October. Earlier weeks already closed Charleston Springs North and South, Pine Brook, Bel-Aire, and Shark River. The same PDF says dates are weather permitting, rain dates are built in, and tee times may still be available. Call that shop. Do not assume the closed course has no book at all.

Torrey Pines splits the work by course. North stays open through a pre-seeding dry-down from 15 September through 5 October 2026, then closes 6 through 8 October for overseeding and solid-tine aerification. South stays open 5 through 26 October during its own pre-seeding, then closes 27 October through 9 November. When one 18 is closed, the other 18 is often the sheet you should be on.

Morris Williams in Austin closes 12 and 13 October 2026 for overseeding. That shop also closes every second Monday of the month for maintenance, holidays excepted. After a two-day aerify in July or August, it reopens the next day at noon. A grey Monday there can be the monthly close, not a 7-day book that never dropped.

Wichita's MacDonald course stayed on the calendar 15 and 16 September 2026 and asked golfers to play the punched greens. The city page says aeration is for drainage and root health, and that a couple of bumpy weeks is the trade. That is an open book with worse putting, not a closed course.

City of Albuquerque Golf publishes a 2026 greens aerification calendar — Puerto del Sol 1 through 3 September, Los Altos 8 through 10, Arroyo del Oso 15 through 17, Ladera 22 through 24 — and separately says its courses are open 364 days a year, Christmas excepted, weather permitting. The same page tells visitors to call ahead, and that executive nines stay open to the public during an 18-hole tournament closure. A posted aeration week is not automatically a closed sheet.

Write down the calendar first

Open the course maintenance page, not the live tee sheet. Write four things:

  1. Which dates that shop closes, and whether the PDF still says times may be available
  2. Whether a sister 18, a second nine, or an executive course stays open
  3. Whether the shop stays open on punched greens instead of closing
  4. When the course reopens, and whether cart-path-only or sandy greens last after that

Then write one backup course whose aeration week already passed, or whose book is still selling. If you are still fighting that backup's original release, use the 7-day and 14-day public book notes. This guide is for the week the favorite is punched or shut.

Book the open sister

Book the open 18 first. On a system that rotates aeration, demand piles onto the course that is still selling. Be logged in on that login, with the foursome names ready, the same way you would for a normal drop.

If you switch shops, take that shop's clock with you. Morris Williams sells weekday times online at 9am, seven days out. Weekend times there open the preceding Monday at 8pm, online only, and the phones start Tuesday at shop open. A 7-day habit from another Austin book will miss that Monday-night weekend drop.

If the sister sheet is already grey, you are on leftovers. Use the last-minute Saturday guide for cancellations and shop holds, or take twilight on the open course. Do not wait for the closed favorite to invent a morning hold.

After reopen is a different trade

A reopen is not the same as a clean Saturday. Torrey Pines says greens stay bumpy and sanded for about two to three weeks after core work or overseeding. After the October close, North carts stay on the path from 9 October 2026 through 1 February 2027. South does the same from 10 November 2026 through 1 February 2027, and pace is strictly enforced.

Take that round if you want the day more than a perfect green. Take the sister, the executive nine, or the shop whose week already passed if you want a smoother putt. The older maintenance etiquette notes cover staying out of the crew's way. This guide is how you still get a time.

What not to do

  • Do not refresh a closed championship 18 as if the original 7:36 will return this week.
  • Do not treat one muny's aeration PDF as a national rule. Monmouth rotates closures. Wichita asked golfers to play the holes. Albuquerque lists dates and still says to call.
  • Do not send a booking bot at a shop that bans automation. You lose the account and the walk-up on the open sister.

FAQ

Is the course actually closed?

Only if that shop says so. Monmouth and Morris Williams post close dates. Wichita's MacDonald page asked golfers to play. Albuquerque lists aeration dates and says the courses are open 364 days. Read the calendar you care about.

Should I book the sister course?

Yes when that 18 is still selling and you want to play this week. Torrey Pines keeps one course open while the other overseeds. Albuquerque keeps executive nines open during an 18-hole tournament close. Ask the shop which book is live.

When do I call?

After you read this week's maintenance page. Ask whether the closed dates still have leftover times, whether the sister 18 is open, and whether walk-up is allowed on punched greens. The call confirms that shop. It does not replace the posted calendar.
